Directions: access via the Hazeltop Ridge Overlook at mile 54.4 along Skyline Drive. Take the Powell Mountain Trail to the left (south). At about 1.5 miles you’ll cross a feeder stream; turn left here and leave the trail. Keep this stream to your left and bushwhack downhill for about a ½ mile or so until you reach a junction with Big Creek. Cross the feeder stream and follow Big Creek upstream until you reach the main falls. At times you may have to swing wide from the creek to safely navigate the rocky terrain. To me this is one of SNP’s most beautiful and largest waterfalls. The upper falls are located just a short distance upstream.

Big Creek Falls (Main)

Tucked away in pristine wilderness, far from any trails, the main waterfall along Big Creek is probably the most beautiful and the biggest off-trail waterfall within Shenandoah National Park. There are a couple other smaller waterfalls as well but to-date I have no green season images to post.
